Project Report Project Description The course requirements included a twenty page formal research paper using APA style. The topic that I had chosen was "Studies related to childhood obesity in elementary school children." This research paper talks about the causes of obesity and on how society deals with the current global epidemic of obesity. The paper also discusses how it affects elementary school children. There were also two critiques to be completed each critiques was related to the topic and type of study discussed in class. These would include a Qualitative and Quantitative study. In the beginning of the semester we had conducted a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt was done to acquaint the students with research methods. Lessons Learned During the duration of this course, I had learned a lot about writing a research paper. There were several activities used to enhance our knowledge on how to conduct a research study. One activity includes a scavenger hunt. The purpose of the scavenger hunt was to familiarize ourselves with what information is available at the library and on the web to conduct our research. We are able to conduct the scavenger hunt at the library or at home on the internet. I had chosen to go to the library because at the time I did not know that all of the information I needed would be available on line. However, I have then found out that it would have been possible to complete the assignment from my home. I learned how important it is to know the difference of scholarly papers when doing research. The course required that I would find primary sources for our research papers. Therefore, it was important to know the difference between primary and secondary sources. We were also introduced to a lot of new terminology associated with conducting research. They include Qualitative and Quantitative studies, ex post facto, correlational, non experimental studies as well as the difference of a dependant and independent variables. One of the most important lessons that I learned writing my research paper is that it is very challenging and at times overwhelming. However, it would be a good idea to take the class in the beginning of the program so that it will help prepare for other courses that will require annotations or formal writings. In conducting the research needed on my topic, I had learned that there are different causes of obesity in elementary school children and on how important it is for the school districts to keep the Physical Education programs active. I had learned that the epidemic is not confined to children in the United States but that it is a global problem that needs to find a quick solution. I had discovered that more research studies needs to be conducted on how to prevent childhood obesity and how school districts can do to help prevent obesity in young children.
Modifications Made The modifications made for this project was to change the research paper to a PDF format. This modification will allow users to view the paper in a different format. I feel that this is the only change that would need to be made.
