Part 1

Open House Presentation for Parents

All school districts have two open houses each year; one in the fall and one in the spring.  The teacher is able to display the activities done by the students during the school year.  I hope to support and instruct to the teachers at Lopez-Riggins Elementary at Los Fresnos CISD, on how to create a presentation that will run continuously during open house for the parents to see their child participating in the class learning activities.

PROPOSAL

Performance Problem
Each year parents visit their child’s teacher and classroom during open house.  I purpose to instruct the Teachers at Lopez-Riggins Elementary to create a slideshow presentation that will illustrate the activities performed during the preceding months.  The Teachers will be taking pictures of the activities done in the classroom using a digital camera.  If a teacher does not have a digital camera, then they are able to borrow one from the school library.  The teacher will be required to include a minimum of twenty digital pictures with the slide interval of three seconds per slide, a title page as well as to have the presentation run continuously.

Viable Solution

Solution 1

Solution 2

Description of the solution

Elementary Teachers will develop a professional and informative presentation using MS PowerPoint.

Elementary Teachers will be developing a professional and informative presentation using PhotoStory 3.

Internal (personal) strengths in relation to the solution

I have used MS PowerPoint in creating digital presentations in the past for Open House.  I feel honored to show the teachers how to create a professional and entertaining presentation for Open House

I have used PhotoStory 3 in the past to create digital presentations.

Internal (personal) weaknesses in relation to the solution

I have limited experience in using MS PowerPoint to design presentations for Open House.

I have limited experience using PhotoStory 3 to design a presentation for Open House.

External (environmental) opportunities in relation to the solution

The teacher has access to desktop computers for their training and creation of their presentation

Each classroom has three student computers and one teacher computer.  Students are able to create their presentations in their own classroom.

External (environmental) threats in relation to the solution

Limited computers are available for training.  Since some Students do not have digital cameras, they will be able to borrow one from the school’s library

PhotoStory 3 is not downloaded to any computers and downloading software is blocked by the firewall.

Your chosen solution

I have chosen solution 1

Reasons

In using solution 1, the Teachers will be able to create a professional and entertaining presentation that will allow them to use their creativity and their organization skills.  The fact that I have limited knowledge of MS PowerPoint in creating presentation will make the training session more collaborative and will benefit the teachers.  I am confident that this will be an excellent project for teacher as well as parents.  These Teachers will have their training in the library after school.  Arrangements for using the library computers will need to be made in advance.

Deliverables
The format will include a small group face to face training held at the schools library and a narrated PowerPoint presentation that allows Teachers to review at their own pace will also be available.   Handouts will be available for viewing and download as PDF documents. Because of the nature of this instructional package, a teacher’s guide and a student’s guide will be furnished so that each group of audience is able to follow the guide and proceed with the planned instruction sequence.
