Instructional Technology in Teaching

edci 6301

This year, the Clint district began using Polycom video conferencing technology which allows being able to present a lesson from one campus to other campuses via the new SBC GigaMan network. In addition, all the campuses received ActivBoard equipment which allows interactive instruction directly from a connected laptop. All this differs in a terrific way with the dial up Mac 64K world of only fifteen years ago. Resources for teaching children online have changed from platform specific CDs to web sites that provide interactive learning for PreK through college.

This course has a text that includes its own DVD, the author states that teachers must be futurists in today's electronic age. I think I have been a futurist and in my own way by getting this degree, have been able to advance my ability to teach electronically. I have learned from fellow futurists that soon a child won't have to go to a brick and mortar building school. Teaching electronically is fun and I'd like to enable my fellow teachers to get online and have their own web page and/or web site. The possibilities are unlimited.

Web Based Instruction

During the Spring semester, applying web based technology to the elementary classroom became one of the last courses I need to graduate. This year the Clint Independent School District applied monies from a TEA grant to buy video conferencing equipment for all campuses. With this semester's course, new data about elementary schools communicating via video conference could justify the concept in our district.

I've found that this graduate course increased my desire to design and implement the latest technology for elementary schools. These populations usually lag behind the curve because of cost and physical constraints.

Conducting applied research on video conferencing

IT Consultancy

Having come this far in the MEd course (over thirty hours), many of the technical and psychological disciplines used by consultants reside in my portfolio. I was suprised to learn that another version of this course created an ePortfolio, which is what you are reading right now anyway. I created my own portfolio without having to take the class. Since this is a fast moving syllabus, the entire course should be over in a couple of weeks.

I desire to make every effort to get much of this in before deadlines. Another constraint lifted from my schedule was the death of my ninety-one year old mother-in-law. She had been taking up all of my time having to help my wife make sure she was comfortable and loved until her last day on earth. So, with renewed hope and resolution, I plan to finish my degree by the end of the fall.
